DECODING Digital Connections

Having a competitive advantage in today’s marketplace requires understanding how young people interact online with brands and with one another.

DECODE’s Decoding Digital Connections (DDC) syndicated online study is a comprehensive and cost-effective exploration of how young people engage with one another and with brands through online and mobile channels, with a particular focus on social media. Our customized reports will allow your marketers to hit the ground running with actionable insights that will prove invaluable to your organization as it seeks to develop and validate a social media strategy for young generations.

We apply ad hoc as well as customized segmentation models to a robust dataset in order to produce a highly granular understanding of how young people within your target market influence one another and interact with brands in the online context. This information can be leveraged to maximize return on investment in online communications, by helping your marketers tailor your strategy to divergent segments of the online population.

Top Campus Employers

Since 2004 DECODE has conducted the annual Canada’s Top Campus Employer survey among university and college students from across Canada. In 2011 alone over 20,000 post-secondary students completed the survey, resulting in one of the most robust datasets among this crucial demographic of future employees. DECODE is able to mine previous years’ data to uncover trends among particular student populations with regards to what they are looking for in an ideal employer in their field, so that our clients can best position themselves to attract top-flight talent in their respective industries.

The survey captures detailed insights on students’ career aspirations, goals, and decision-making processes. The results are produced annually by Brainstorm Consulting and DECODE for our clients as the Canada’s Top Campus Employers Report. The Report provides key strategic data, information, and advice that enables employers to develop effective recruitment programs and strategies. The Report also provides valuable information to help post-secondary institutions meet the career development and planning needs of their students.

DECODING Mobile Consumers

Marketing through mobile devices is a hot topic today. But the reality is that consumer adoption rates associated with many mobile marketing platforms are low. For example, a very small percentage of people ever “check in”, and the majority of people have no idea what a QR Code even is. But given that the potential of such applications is so high, particularly in relation to impacting customers at the point of purchase, it is important to understand what – if anything – would entice different customer segments to use them. To this end, in June of 2011 DECODE surveyed over 500 15 – 34 year old mobile device users with a particular focus on what interests them in relation to using their mobile devices while shopping; key interest drivers for “checking in”; what might get them to use their phone to scan a QR code on a product; what they expect to use their mobile devices for more in the future; and privacy concerns (where Facebook is emerging as a worrisome “Big Brother” in the minds of many mobile phone users).
