Robert Barnard
CEO
Robert Barnard is the Founder and CEO of DECODE. Robert has led a passionate team of Decoders since 1994 with the aim of helping companies better understand young people as consumers, employees and citizens. With an innate capacity for transforming chaos into solutions, he is a co-author of the best-selling book, Chips and Pop: Decoding the Nexus Generation; a recipient of The Caldwell Partners’ Canadian Top 40 Under 40; and past Chair of Street Kids International, an innovative organization that helps street youth worldwide develop business skills and health knowledge to better their lives. Robert’s work transcends industries and sectors and spans across different countries. When he is not rubbing elbows with Nelson Mandela at functions or practicing his golf swing with former Prime Minister Jean Chrietien, Robert can be found hard at work searching for the next influential project to better the world.
Scott Beffort
Lead Strategist & Head of Innovation
Scott Beffort has been influencing smart strategy for the past 15 years, helping clients leverage innovation to drive measurable results. His natural curiosity has helped to shape new ideas for a wide-range of companies and industries including retail, consumer packaged goods, not-for-profit, food-service and advertising. As a marketing, sales and business development leader successful in conquering corporate crossroads and armed with a degree in Literature, certificates in Dispute Resolution and Executive Development he is well positioned to bridge the gap between sound strategy and great execution. Scott has held positions as National Sales Manager for a Canadian foodservice start-up, National Director of Marketing with Canada Post, Vice-President of Business Development for a not-for-profit organization and as Principal of Headstand – a consulting practice effective in sparking new thinking.
Jennifer Evers
Lead Strategist
Jennifer Evers comes to DECODE with 10 years of experience assisting clients from across the creative industries. Client focused and solution oriented, Jennifer has helped organizations through organizational reviews, strategic planning, sponsorship research and resource development, measurement and evaluation. Jennifer brings diverse experience from the private, not-for-profit and public sectors including positions at the Canada Council Art Bank, the Department of Canadian Heritage, and management consulting. Jennifer has an honours degree in Political Science, a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies and a professional Project Management designation. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys traveling, and hosting dinner parties for close friends and family. She also completes triathlons, half-marathons, and expects people to understand the difference between 'its' and 'it's'. Over the last few years, Jennifer has developed the new and concerning habit of collecting contemporary art, and looks forward to taking her 1 1/2 year old daughter snowboarding in Chile.
Ian Thwaites
UK Director
Ian Thwaites has come to DECODE to lead on UK and Europe operations with a strong background in helping companies to grow by doing big new things that are better for their customers. This work includes customer insight, concept development and execution, and has ranged from new proposition development to brand strategy, service design to team development and employee engagement to corporate visioning at board level. Ian has been leading consulting projects over the past four years for clients including HSBC, Marks & Spencer, The Carbon Trust, Comic Relief and H&M. Before consulting, Ian worked in Mergers and Acquisitions at Lazard Frères, specialising in valuations and financial modelling for the Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals sector, then in Brand Management and new product development for Evian and Volvic. He has a first class BSc in Sports Science from the University of Bath and a Masters in Marketing from St Andrews. And, having placed second in his class at the World Triathlon Championships, Ian has quickly assumed the title of 'DECODER most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse'.
Anthony West
Senior Analyst
Anthony West came to DECODE from the Research Analyst post-graduate program at Georgian College with finely tuned quantitative research skills. He is a natural fit at DECODE with his extensive experience working with youth across a variety of settings including as an outdoor educator, a program director and an ESL teacher in Osaka, Japan. Anthony's expertise in the fields of quant research and strategic consulting allow him to leverage DECODE's wealth of proprietary data to help our clients make the best possible business decisions. When he’s not poring over data, or a carefully selected Americano, he can be found playing sports, canoe-tripping, making music, reading and practicing judo. Anthony also holds a degree in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Toronto.
Eric Meerkamper
Advisor
Eric Meerkamper has been involved with DECODE since 1999 and is a shareholder and advisor to the company. While at DECODE, Eric led research, strategy and innovation projects in various categories including: employee attraction and retention, confectionery, responsible gambling, alcohol, telecom, financial services, food and beverage, and media and technology. Eric is a frequent speaker on attracting and retaining young employees and was the co-author of DECODE’S From Learning to Work, a nationally syndicated study on campus recruitment. Eric is the co-founder and Chair of the Center for Social Innovation, and past Chair of the Daily Bread Food Bank. Eric holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and an Honours BA in International Political Science from the University of Western Ontario.
